Fitness Course Information

On our fitness training courses emphasis is put on correct technique and the rationale behind the activity, rather than focusing purely on all out effort

The key areas for focus will be on experiencing and understanding the benefits of functional flexibility; aerobic and anaerobic fitness drills; working in a higher HRT zone; the importance of recovery, and an insight into exercise nutrition (including supplements)

At the conclusion of the fitness training courses you will have:

  • a better understanding of how the body works
  • a repertoire of exercise drills to continue when you return home
  • a good understanding of exercise nutrition
  • increased fitness and recovery levels
  • increased confidence in your physical and psychological abilities

Our programme follows the four fundamental scientific principles that underpin effective and sustainable exercise on our fitness training courses.

Type: The programme on the fitness training courses is designed to maximise increased aerobic and anaerobic fitness and flexibility.

Intensity: Using the principles of overload and specificity, the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems are put under appropriate stress to power the large muscle groups allowing them to perform the wide range of exciting activities built into the programme. Intensity The intensity of the activities are monitored closely using heart rate monitors and perceived exertion scales.

At the onset of the programme each client will complete physical fitness assessments and the results of these will determine your heart rate training zone.

Duration: The BaseCamp programme is varied and challenging, and runs from dawn to dusk. It has been designed to allow for adequate rest and recovery periods which will ensure maximum benefits are derived from the various activities.

Frequency: The optimum frequency for physical exercise participation has been debated for many years and that debate still continues today. What is evidently clear from research conducted in this field is that it is largely dependant on the intensity and the duration of the exercise programme being undertaken.

BaseCamp has been extremely careful during the design phase of its programme to take these factors into account, and although the programme is full and varied, its flexibility ensures optimum results with minimal risk.

Accommodation at our BaseCamp+1 course

We run our courses at two wonderful bases, in Exmoor in the south west of England and in a corner of the Dordogne in France. If you have already experienced our weight loss boot camp held at the same locations, then you’ll be pleased to hear that Dan, our great chef, has created the menus and cooks the gourmet meals on our fitness courses.

Exmoor

Our Exmoor location offers delightful twin and single room accommodation, all of which are en suite with either bath or shower and decorated in an English country house style. The house has extensive private grounds which we use for some of the exercise sessions and wonderful views over the surrounding countryside.

There are comfortable lounges where you can relax between sessions and after dinner and during the warmer weather we can eat outside and make the most of the barbeque facilities.

Dordogne

In France our base is a beautiful barn complex, originally built in 1830 but renovated and converted into a modern and stylish facility in 2002. Again, we have a choice of twin or single rooms, with two rooms sharing a bathroom.

There are tastefully decorated lounges and dining room and outside, there is plenty of seating on the patios and around the full-size pool, which overlooks the rolling hills and valleys.

Both locations offer the very best in accommodation and are set in private grounds with stunning views of the local countryside.
